France
Despite all the rumours, France is still a hugely important part of the UK wine market, 27% in the On- Trade, what makes it number one. And the reasons for that are simple: no other country can compete with the sheer diversity of wine styles offered by France and no other country offers such a range of must-list appellations.
At WaverleyTBS we’ve sought-out the best, most forward looking producers in each of the major appellations, from the Loire, to Bordeaux, via Burgundy, the Rhone, Provence and Languedoc-Roussillon. Without exception, these wines are examples of the best of modern France, where hundreds of years of tradition are backed up by contemporary winemaking flair.
Vins de FranceThe arrival of the Vins de France category, part of the dramatic changes to EU wine law passed last year, allows French producers to blend grapes from all over the country, and to print the grape variety and vintage on the label. This puts them on a much more even footing with the New World, and, in the case of brands such as Pierre Javert, has enabled us to source the best quality:value ratio that France can offer. The result is a set of superb, easy-drinking wines offering great consistency, without ever losing that French je ne sais quoi.
